2-3 Zone
A zone defense with two defenders up top and three across the baseline area. It walls off the paint and the corners but is vulnerable at the high post, short corner, and to skip passes.
CONTEXT
The most common zone in basketball. Offenses attack it by flashing to the free-throw line, overloading a side, and moving the ball faster than the zone can shift.
COACHING CONTEXT
Synonymous with Jim Boeheim's Syracuse program; at lower levels it's often the first team defense ever taught, which is why every coach also teaches how to beat it.
