One Foot in the Paint
Defense is not just guarding your own player. When the ball is on the opposite side of the court, your job changes: sink toward the paint so you can stop a drive before it reaches the rim. Stand where you can see both the ball and your player at the same time — if you can only see one, you're in the wrong spot. Being two big steps off your man toward the middle feels like you're leaving them open. You're not. You're protecting the basket, which matters more.
READ THIS
Check where the ball is relative to your man — if it's two passes away and you can't see both ball and man without turning your head, you're too wide.
DO THIS
Sink toward the rim line with one foot near the paint, ball and man both in view, ready to meet a drive outside the charge circle.
