Eyes Before Moves
Before you decide what to do with the ball, look at the person guarding you. Where are their feet? How close are they standing? A defender playing far off you is giving you the shot. A defender crowding you is giving you the drive. Most new players stare at the ball or the rim and guess. Smart players read the defender first, then pick the move the defender has already lost to. The answer is standing right in front of you.
READ THIS
Look at the defender's distance and lead foot the moment you catch the ball. Close and square means one thing; far or staggered means another.
DO THIS
If they're beyond arm's reach, rise into your shot. If they're crowding you, attack their lead foot with your first step.

IN THE SITUATION ROTATION
You catch the ball on the right wing. Your defender is a full step below the arc, heels pointed at the paint, daring you to shoot. Your teammate is spaced on the far slot and nobody is rotating your way.
