The Help Came From Somewhere

YOU1X12X2OPEN
FIG. 128BEATING THE ROTATIONALL FORMATS
Drive past your defender in 2K and watch what happens: another defender slides over to cut you off. That's help defense, and it obeys a law you can build your whole offensive game on — help has to come from somewhere. The defender who slid over was guarding somebody, and that somebody is now standing alone. The instant help arrives, an open teammate exists by definition; your only job is knowing where. The answer is almost always behind the helper: trace the defender who stopped you back to the player they abandoned — usually a shooter in the corner or on the wing — and throw them the ball. This is why driving into a wall of bodies and forcing up a floater is the most common wasted possession in 2K. The drive wasn't the mistake; ignoring what the drive created was. Real defenses work identically: five defenders guarding five attackers is a solved problem, but the moment one attacker beats their man, the defense has to rob Peter to guard Paul. 2K renders those rotations faithfully, right down to the corner shooter waving their arms. Beat your man, find Peter, throw it.

READ THIS

On every drive, watch which defender leaves to stop the ball — the player they abandoned is your open teammate, usually in the weak-side corner.

DO THIS

Spend a 2K game driving with no intention of shooting — every drive must end in a kick-out to whoever the help left, and count the open threes it creates.
