Spending the Free Foul
Late in a period, if your team hasn't committed many fouls, you have what coaches call a foul to give — you can foul once more before the other team earns free throws. That foul is a tool. Used at the right moment, it wipes out the opponent's play: they run their set for the final shot, and just as it starts, you foul away from the shooting motion. Now they must inbound again with less time and their play burned. Know the foul count late in every quarter — a free disruption is too valuable to waste by accident, or to forget entirely.

Check the team foul count entering the final minute of each period — know whether you have a foul to give and whether they do.
DO THIS
With the clock under ten, foul the handler cleanly before any shooting motion starts, burning their set — and script a counter when they hold the free foul.

IN THE SITUATION ROTATION
Your team leads by two with eight seconds left, and the opponent has the ball. Your team has one foul to give before the bonus. The ball handler catches the inbounds pass and turns to start the possession.
