The Snake Pocket (Drop Big)

The big is dropped deep and your defender is trailing behind you — the pocket between them is unguarded floor.

THE TRIGGER — ONE LOOK

Coming off the screen, find the big's feet: parked at the edge of the paint while your man chases from behind. That bubble at the free-throw line belongs to nobody.

YOUR JOB, BY WHERE YOU'RE STANDING

Ballhandler

Snake the dribble back across the screen line and walk into the pocket, shot ready, eyes on the drop.

The pocket puts the drop big in a no-win: step up and the roller is behind him, stay down and you shoot the free-throw-line jumper all day.

Roller

Roll out of the screen and dive down the back side of the drop — stay behind his eyes.

The drop can only watch one thing. The moment he steps up to the pocket, the space behind him is a lob or a drop-off layup.

Corner man

Hold the corner — your defender is the low help, and your feet are what keep him honest.

Your man is the one tagged to stop the roller. Stand still and he has to pick: give up your three or give up the dive.

THE NEXT BEAT

The drop big holds his line until you threaten him; your trailing man is one beat from catching up. Snake into the pocket and the drop must step up — and the instant he does, the dive behind him is open.
