FIG. 14TWO MAN GAME2V2
Two-on-two is where basketball stops being about beating your man and starts being about beating their team. The basic tool is the screen: your teammate plants their body in your defender's path, and suddenly two defenders have to solve a problem in one second. When your teammate sets a screen, drive your defender into it — shoulder to shoulder, no gap. Then read what happens: if your defender fights over, your screener is rolling free. If the defenders switch, someone has a mismatch. Every screen creates a question the defense has to answer, and every answer leaves something open.

READ THIS

Watch the screener's defender as you come off the pick — dropped back at the paint, showing up at the level, or switching onto you.

DO THIS

Turn the corner tight off the screen, and answer the coverage: pull up against drop, hit the early roll against the show, attack the mismatch on a switch.

COACHING LINEAGE

Gregg Popovich

Ball movement is a weapon — the extra pass is always right. Good shot to great shot, every possession.

Steve Kerr

Off-ball movement wins: cut, relocate, space. The defense can only watch one thing.

IN THE SITUATION ROTATION

In a 2v2 game, your partner sets a ball screen on the right side. Your defender fights over the top of it, and your partner's defender drops back toward the paint, leaving a pocket of space between them.
