THE TRIGGER — ONE LOOK
One look at the point of attack after the screen: a big's jersey is on the ballhandler. That switched matchup is the whole read.
YOUR JOB, BY WHERE YOU'RE STANDING
Ballhandler
Attack the big off the dribble in space — make him move his feet, don't settle into a standstill dance.
A big in space defends with length, not hips. One hard change of direction gets your shoulder past him; hesitating gives the help time to arrive.
Screener
Seal the small deep — chest first, pin him on your back and walk him toward the rim.
The other half of the switch belongs to you: a smaller defender near the rim. Every step deeper makes the entry pass easier and his counter weaker.
Third man
Hold the far corner — spaced wide, feet set, ready to shoot.
Your defender is the double team waiting to happen. Staying wide forces his choice: leave you and give up the kick-out, or stay home and let the mismatch play out one-on-one.
THE NEXT BEAT
The defense knows it's stuck. The nearest helper starts cheating toward the mismatch to double or pre-rotate — which is why spacing away from it turns a good matchup into an open kick-out.
