LESSON 4 OF 7

LEVEL 1Offenseall

Sell the Shot, Steal the Lane

YOU2X2LANE
FIG. 04SHOT FAKE TIMINGALL FORMATS
A shot fake only works if the defender believes you might actually shoot. That means the fake has to look exactly like your real shot — same eyes on the rim, same ball lift, same knee bend. And it only matters against a defender who is close enough to jump at you. Faking against a defender who's sagging off does nothing; they were never going to contest. Fake when they're close, keep your feet ready, and the moment they leave the floor or lurch forward, you go past them.

READ THIS

Watch the defender's momentum — sprinting at you on a closeout, or rocking forward onto their toes within arm's reach.

DO THIS

Show your real shot for a beat, and the instant their weight lifts or lunges, drive past the side they've committed to.

COACHING LINEAGE

Larry Brown

Play the right way: fundamental execution over flash, every possession.

IN THE SITUATION ROTATION

You catch a kickout in the right corner and a defender comes sprinting at you, arms up, still moving at full speed. They are close enough that a shot would be contested but have not broken down their feet yet.
