LEVEL 2Small Sided1v1
Weight Never Lies
A defender can fake with their hands, but their body weight always tells the truth. Watch their heels and their shoulders. Weight back on the heels means they're braced for your drive — shoot instead. Weight forward on the toes means they're about to pressure or reach — drive right past them. Leaning left means go right. This is why good jab steps work: they force the defender to shift their weight and show you the truth. Make them move, read the lean, attack the opposite.
READ THIS
Watch the defender's hips and heels as you probe — flat heels and a high stance, or a lean caught mid-slide in one direction.
DO THIS
Probe with a hesitation or in-and-out, and the instant their weight commits one way, attack hard in the opposite direction.
COACHING LINEAGE
Larry Brown
Play the right way: fundamental execution over flash, every possession.
Doc Rivers
The mental game is real: confidence is a tactical weapon. Hesitation is the most common turnover.
IN THE SITUATION ROTATION
Playing one-on-one, you throw a hard jab step to your right. Your defender bites, lunging so hard that all their weight lands on their left leg. For a split second they are frozen on that side.
