COURT 201

LESSON 5 OF 9

LEVEL 2Small Sided1v1

Every Move Needs a Brother

YOU1X1COUNTER LANE
FIG. 12THE COUNTER MOVE1V1
The first time you use your best move, it might work. The third time, the defender is sitting on it, waiting. That's why every move needs a counter — a second move that punishes the defender for stopping the first one. If your drive right gets cut off, spin back left. If they jump your crossover, hit them with the in-and-out. The counter isn't a backup plan; it's the other half of the same move. Defenders can take away one thing. They can't take away a pair.

READ THIS

Notice when the defender starts beating you to your favorite spot — arriving early, cheating their stance toward your go-to move.

DO THIS

Start your primary move with the exact same first beat, then break off into the counter the moment they jump the original.

COACHING LINEAGE

Larry Brown

Play the right way: fundamental execution over flash, every possession.

Doc Rivers

The mental game is real: confidence is a tactical weapon. Hesitation is the most common turnover.

IN THE SITUATION ROTATION

You have scored twice in a row driving right in this one-on-one game. Now your defender is cheating a full step toward your right hand before you even move, almost ignoring your left side.
