The Invisible Fence
Imagine a line drawn roughly sixteen feet from the rim, all the way around — well inside the three-point arc. In pack-line defense, every defender whose man doesn't have the ball stays inside that line — packed in, close to the paint. Only the player guarding the ball pressures up. The result: every drive runs into a crowd, every gap is already filled, and the paint feels like a wall. The trade-off is you give up some outside shots and open passing on the perimeter. The bet is simple: crowded paint, contested layups, and long shots over easy ones.
READ THIS
Check your position when your man doesn't have the ball — both feet inside the imaginary line two steps within the arc, gap already filled.
DO THIS
Sink to the pack when off the ball, pressure hard when on it, and close out high-handed and short, steering everything back into the crowd.
