The Chain Reaction
When one defender leaves their man to stop a drive, they create a new problem: their man is now open. Good defenses solve it with a chain reaction — the helper's man gets covered by the next-nearest defender, whose man gets covered by the next, all the way around. Everyone slides one link over. The chain only works if every link moves at the same time. If you're the last link, you may end up guarding two players at once: split the distance between them and take away the easier pass until help recovers.
READ THIS
Watch the low helper's commitment — the instant they leave their man for the ball, the chain has started and the vacated player is your responsibility.
DO THIS
Rotate one link toward the abandoned man as the help commits, split two shooters when you're the last link, and sprint back to matchups on the kick-out.
