The Oldest Play Has Buttons

15X1X5REJECT LANE
FIG. 123PICK-AND-ROLL READSALL FORMATS
Hold the screen button in 2K and a teammate jogs up to set a pick — a legal roadblock planted in your defender's path. That's the pick-and-roll, the most-run play in basketball, and 2K's controls are secretly a menu of real decisions. The modifier that toggles roll versus fade? That's you choosing whether the screener dives to the rim (roll) or pops out toward the three-point line (fade) — a choice real handlers make with a nod or a word. Drive off the screen and your defender has to fight through the roadblock while the screener's defender scrambles to cover two people at once. That two-on-one is the entire point of the play. Every option on your controller maps to a read a real point guard makes with their eyes: come off the screen and shoot, drive all the way, hit the roller diving to the rim, or throw to the popper behind the arc. The buttons didn't invent any of this — they just gave names and inputs to choices Hall of Fame guards have been making for seventy years. Learn why each input works and you've learned the actual play.

READ THIS

Watch the screener's defender the moment the pick arrives — hedge, drop, or switch, their choice tells you the right answer before you make it.

DO THIS

Run ten straight pick-and-rolls in 2K and call the coverage out loud each time before choosing — shoot, snake, reject, or hit the roller.

COACHING LINEAGE

Gregg Popovich

Ball movement is a weapon — the extra pass is always right. Good shot to great shot, every possession.
