LESSON 8 OF 9

LEVEL 3Teamall

Play Your Weakest Teammate Strong

YOU14X4
FIG. 13PLAYING WITH A LIMITED TEAMMATEALL FORMATS
In pickup, someone on your team is usually the weakest player on the floor, and the defense knows it. You can't hide them, but you can place them. Park them where their jobs are simple: the corner for spacing, the dunker spot for drop-off passes, screening and rebounding everywhere else. Throw them catchable passes in their spots and never in traffic. Encourage them early — a role player who believes stays useful all game. A weak teammate handled well leaves the game four-on-four everywhere else.

READ THIS

The defense sags off one of your teammates and their defender starts roaming as a free helper on every drive.

DO THIS

Move that teammate to the dunker spot or into screens, give them one simple job at a time, and hit them only in their spots.

COACHING LINEAGE

Doc Rivers

The mental game is real: confidence is a tactical weapon. Hesitation is the most common turnover.

Phil Jackson

The triangle decision framework applies to any offense — proper spacing turns every defensive choice into a wrong answer.

IN THE SITUATION ROTATION

A drive collapses the defense and the ball gets kicked to you on the right wing. A defender is closing out; your shot would be open-ish but contested. One more pass away, your corner teammate stands completely alone, their defender stranded in the paint.
