Tired Legs Tell the Truth

YOU1X1FIRST SLIDEIS GONE
FIG. 12EXPLOITING FATIGUEALL FORMATS
Fatigue shows before players admit it: hands on shorts between plays, closeouts that arrive slow and upright, jump shots coming up short, defenders dying on the first screen instead of fighting through. When you see it, change your plan. Attack the tired player off the dribble, run them through screens and cuts even on plays where you never get the ball, and push the pace so they never get to rest. Tired defenders reach and foul because their feet are gone — invite them to.

READ THIS

Hands on shorts between plays, upright closeouts arriving late, and a defender starting to reach instead of moving their feet.

DO THIS

Attack that player directly: drive at them in space, run them through screens off the ball, and push the tempo so they never rest.

COACHING LINEAGE

Pat Riley

Transition aggression — push before the defense sets. The best offense happens in the first six seconds.

IN THE SITUATION ROTATION

It is your third game of the day at a tournament and your legs are heavy. The opponent is fresher, and you can feel your shot getting short and your closeouts getting slow. There is a lot of basketball left to play.
