Cold Streaks Are a Shot-Diet Problem

FIG. 09PLAYING THROUGH A COLD STREAKALL FORMATS
Every player has nights when the jumper won't fall. The mistake is treating it as something to fix mid-game by shooting more, or something to hide from by shooting never. Both make you worse. A cold streak means your next points should come from closer: cut to the rim, run hard in transition, crash the offensive glass, get to the line. Keep making the right passes and playing real defense — those never go cold. The jumper usually comes back on its own once you stop staring at it.

READ THIS

Your last two or three jumpers missed the same way — short and flat, or spraying sideways off hurried feet.

DO THIS

Move your next points to the rim: cut, run the floor, crash, draw a foul — and still take open shots at normal rhythm, without hesitation.

COACHING LINEAGE

Steve Kerr

Off-ball movement wins: cut, relocate, space. The defense can only watch one thing.

Phil Jackson

The triangle decision framework applies to any offense — proper spacing turns every defensive choice into a wrong answer.

IN THE SITUATION ROTATION

The other team has scored on three straight possessions, an 8-0 run, and their whole squad is talking and flying around. You bring the ball up and can feel your teammates pressing, ready to jack the first shot they see.
