No Rest Without the Ball
The ball is on the other side of the court, your man is standing still, and your body whispers: rest here. That whisper loses games. Off-ball possessions are where cutters score layups behind sleeping defenders — your man is watching you, waiting for your eyes to leave, your knees to straighten, your attention to drift. Defending off the ball is its own 1v1 battle: keep your stance, keep seeing both your man and the ball, and treat every second they stand still as the setup for the cut that's coming. Rest when the whistle blows, not when the ball is away.
READ THIS
Notice your own rest tells — straightened knees, eyes stuck on the ball, a full head turn on the swing — and the cutter timing them.
DO THIS
Hold the pistols stance splitting man and ball, scan on a one-second rhythm, and re-load your legs on every pass — the cut comes when you stand up.
