Two in the Paint (Kickout Window)

Two defenders' feet are inside the paint on one drive — somebody on the perimeter just became open.

THE TRIGGER — ONE LOOK

Mid-drive, drop your eyes to the floor of the paint: two pairs of defender feet in it. Two men guarding one ball means a shooter outside has nobody.

YOUR JOB, BY WHERE YOU'RE STANDING

Driver

Jump-stop before the crowd and kick to the man the second helper left — usually the corner.

Two defenders on one drive is math: somebody is standing alone. Forcing a layup over both turns your advantage into their block.

Corner man

Stay planted in the corner, feet set — the kick is coming to where you already are.

Your defender is the second man in the paint. Drift up the line and you shorten his close-out and drag the pass through traffic.

Weakside wing

Lift to the slot so the driver can see you — the second exit if the corner gets taken away.

A collapsed defense is a man short everywhere. The driver can only hit what's in his vision, and the slot is in it.

THE NEXT BEAT

The helpers can't stay. The instant you pick up or kick, both sprint back to their men — the kickout window lives for one beat, and the corner is the longest close-out on the floor.
